The Skilled Independent Visa is for points-tested skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member. This is a permanent residency visa that allows you to live and work in Australia indefinitely.

The Skilled Nominated Visa is for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory government. It provides permanent residency and allows you to live and work in Australia.

The Skilled Regional Visa is for skilled workers who are nominated by a state or territory government or sponsored by an eligible relative. It allows you to live and work in regional Australia for up to five years.

This is a temporary visa that allows employers to address labor shortages by hiring overseas workers when they can’t find an appropriately skilled Australian. It can be valid for up to 4 years, depending on the occupation.

For many skilled visa subclasses (e.g., subclass 189 and 190), successful applicants are granted permanent residency, which allows them to live, work, and study in Australia indefinitely.

With a skilled visa, you can work in Australia in any occupation related to your skills, and your family members can also be included in the visa application.

After living in Australia as a permanent resident for a specified period, you may be eligible to apply for Australian citizenship.
